Use of propolis for gum inflammation

Inflammation of the gums (also known as gingivitis) isan acute or chronic infection of the gums. Gum inflammation is favored by various factors such as poor oral hygiene, plaque and other triggers. This problem can occur in both adults and children and is independent of age and gender.
Gum problems in medicine
The symptoms of gingivitis are reddened or swollen gums and increased bleeding of the gums. When brushing teeth, contact with the gums causes heavy bleeding. Initially, this does not cause any pain or other discomfort, which is why it often goes unnoticed for a long time. If this symptomatology intensifies, the visible and noticeable symptoms can cause discomfort. If gum inflammation is not treated or is treated incorrectly, a lack of dental hygiene can lead to serious problems and diseases, often referred to as periodontal disease. Periodontal disease (also known as paradontitis) is an inflammation of the periodontium, which can lead to the loosening of teeth.Propolis and gums study
In addition to the inflammation and symptoms of gum disease, the correct treatment is of great importance. Bacteria in the gums can spread rapidly and cause periodontal disease. The well-known visit to the dentist is important in order to maintain the status of the inflammation. Alternative medicine, on the other hand, attaches great importance to natural support with tea tree oil and, above all, propolis.
A study from 2020 specialized in the effectiveness of propolis in mouthwash against plaque and gingivitis. In the study, propolis showed antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Nine randomized controlled trials with a total of 333 participants were conducted and evaluated for the results. Raw propolis wasused in eight of the studies. Seven studies used 2 % chlorhexidine and two studies used 0.12 % chlorhexidine.
The results show that mouth rinses with propolis have benefits in reducing plaque and gingivitis. While the studies point to a potential benefit of propolisbased mouthrinses for plaque and gingivitis, the results should be viewed with caution due to the very low quality evidence currently available.
Treatment of gums with propolis
The treatment with propolis tinctures is very diverse and we differentiate between diluted and pure application. You can use the bedrop 10% propolis tincture as propolis mouthwash or the alcohol-free propolis mouth spray for daily use. The propolis mouthwash is super easy to make and can be used to rinse your mouth thoroughly after brushing your teeth. You can find out how to make your propolis mouthwash in this blog article.
You can spray the alcohol-free propolis mouthwash into your mouth several times a day and allow it to absorb well, especially when you are out and about. The propolis acts as a kind of protective plaster around your gums and can prevent further bacteria from penetrating and spreading.
To strengthen your well-being, we recommend fighting the bacteria from the inside. Studies have shown that propolis has a high flavonoid content and can improve well-being (click here for the study). We recommend taking bedrop propolis capsules (2 capsules ) daily in the morning with or after a meal.
